About the Author
NICHOLAS IRVING spent six years in the Army’s Special Operations 3rd Ranger Battalion 75th Ranger Regiment, serving from demolitions assaulter to Master Sniper. He was the first African American to serve as a sniper in his battalion and is now the owner of HardShoot, where he trains personnel in the art of long-range shooting. He also appears on the Fox reality show American Grit. He lives in San Antonio, Texas.GARY BROZEK has co-authored nearly 20 books including 5 New York Times bestsellers.

I read Nicholas Irvings first book and can relate it to being the cake and this book is the icing on the cake. This book completes the story and fills in the blanks well enough to put a human touch on a soldier who had been disciplined and trained to become a marksman at distance. Deadly is just when the target is the enemy and not paper or steel and would be more accurately described as life saving to our men and women he fights next to. I've never been in the service, I was on the tail end of the Vietnam draft and too old for anything after. I enjoy shooting and would love to be as proficient as our trained snipers are. The accomplishment of putting a bullet on target at any distance is a great feeling for a shooter, and to read about someone doing so to combat terrorism is the most worthy use of that skill. I hope all of our servicemen and servicewomen can transition from the battlefield to real life with a squared away mental attitude and the necessary tools are in place to do so. Thank you for your story Irv.
This is an excellent read and a wild roller coaster sure to get anyone thinking about the situations we place our combat veterans. If you want to know what it is like to be in the heat of battle and you don't know anyone that will reveal that kind of experience, then this is a good book to read. Nicholas does a good job of describing what it felt like to be there in Afghanistan and Iraq performing night time operations. He also describes the comradery, respect and close relationships he had with his fellow rangers. You will also some perspective as to why these combat veterans come back home and have difficulty readjusting back to a normal peaceful civil society. I praise Nicholas Irving for being able to open up and share his experiences. There are a few minor mistakes in information and few typos, but that does not reduce my recommendation.
Really learn about what our soldiers go through. Having family that served in Iraq and Afghanistan, this book really opens you up to what they went through and still are going through. It is an epidemic the suicide rate of our hero's, and we must do something to help them. To all of our soldiers Thank You and Your Family for your service. God Bless!
This is the second book of Nicholas Irving, detailing his deployment down range. The environment that our troops must face is a challenge. Having read his first book some time ago, and then this one, caused me to reread the first book again. My interest is peaked most by the equipment they use today. If you are a shooter from the past or the present, these two books will hold your interest.
A good solid read from a man who's "been there and done that" . . . but without all the "bragging".It's men like this that make America great, and should give you comfort that the right people are on the front lines keeping us safe. But you also get the sense that he'd fit comfortably into that Saturday afternoon backyard BBQ.
This is a great read for anyone interested in combat veterans and their struggle to put their actions and their feelings about those actions in a constructive way.
The sequel to his first white book. I've mad a review on his first book, but I'm 26 and not an avid reader. I've only read a handful of books in my life including those forced on me in school. This book I genuinely enjoyed reading and it's a great one.
Very good follow up to Nicks first book, This one takes you along on the ops This hero & his men endured. A very good no nonsense read. I highly recommend it
