The best book I've EVER READ!!! I read his other book for teenagers and had applied his theories for years now;so when I needed some guidance for my ADHD 9 year old son BAM .I found this book and the difference in him is REMARKABLE...I finally can BREATHE as a mother and don't feel weary or worn out dealing with his tantrums..it's simple and life changing!!
Very good book, It was a required read for a class, I found it was written very well, it kept the readers attention. please note that there are religious overtones to this books. There are quite a few sections that discuss god, spirituality, and religion.
I have two teenagers and at times I don't know what to do as far as boundaries. As a busy mom, I ordered the audio book and it has opened my eyes in many areas that I did not consider. Teens are getting too much pressure out there and parents too many opinions. It is a good book focus on a Christian perspective. Even if you're not a Christian this book will be useful in techniques to use.
The best way to have this matter understood is to wait until they grow up. But I was consoled by the book because at least I know that I am not alone in my delusional hopes. The best thing to help with unruly teens is a sense of humor and the revel the thought that one day they will go away if you don't allow them to move into your basement LOL. I mean that in the nicest possible way.
Been very helpful in dealing with understanding and empathizing with our 18, soon to be 19 year old.Great book and read it with my with doing a chapter a day together till we finished. It helped so much we bought them for a couple of our friendsHighly recommend. I also read "Boundaries in Marriage".
This may be my third boundaries book and each has been immensely helpful.This is helpful - parenting teens is not easy...neither is it always fun (it can be tho!)...help is always welcome!
I just feel like such a wuss mom, for what is written in this book is so extremely far from what I have been able to do with my son ! However, it's wonderful, and effective. I need to make a lot of changes in my own behavior and in the implementation of basic rules ! Thank you to the author. I wish he were here to have a talk with me and my son, similarly to the way the "television Nanny" (I forgot the name of the program) does for families with little ones :))
Excellent resource for families, not just with teens, but for anyone looking to develop a stronger personal voice and to lovingly and firmly use that voice. My husband and I are reading this together and it is shifting the language in our home and how we engage with all our children. We especially like the electronic book since we can read it anywhere, anytime.
