My nephew loves Dinosaurs, however he is not much of a reader. When he opened this book on Christmas morning his eyes got very big and he was quite excited to see the dinosaurs move. What I liked about the book is the level of detail that it provides so when you're reading him a story you are learning as well. You're not gonna get bored of this book anytime soon.

Oh my gosh, this was the best gift for my 3 year old grandson. And not only him, but his cousins, aunts, uncles, other grandparents. I think Amazon saw an uptick in sales after the birthday party as everyone wanted to know where they could get these books.

This is a beautiful book full of information and fun "photicular" pictures.I bought this book for my dinosaur-obsessed three year old daughter without realizing that it isn't a children's book. This book is definitely meant for older children, teens, or adults. She likes to make the dinosaurs on the pages "move," but lacks the attention span to listen to me read pages of information that I'm not sure she even understands fully. I read through it myself, though, and it's great for any older dino lover! We will absolutely save this for several years down the road.

I got this for my 3 year old nephew and he absolutely loves it. He keeps walking around with it and moving the pages back and forth. So far the book is sturdy enough to handle a toddler playing with it constantly.

Saw it at Cracker Barrel for $30, this was a great alternative price! This was a birthday present for a 3 yr old who loves dinosaurs. It’s his favorite book!!!!’

I read till Chapter 7. I don't really find this book useful for my purpose. There are plenty of explanations on how SAS works behind the scenes which I don't care about. Very few SAS functions are covered. Also, there are no datasets to play with. This book is all about inputting information manually and writing random lists of numbers. I already get datasets for my job... I would say that this book covers almost no data manipulation techniques.

Decent. Got me started. Kind of all over the place though.

He used his power sometimes unconcerned about the implications for citizens. The Cross-Bronx Expressway, for instance, displaced many people. How could he remain for so long a period of time as "below the radar"? He was not an elected official; he served on public authorities, which often have full governmental powers.His list of public works is extraordinary. The Major Deegan Expressway, the Van Wyck Expressway, the Long Island Expressway, and many others. Bridges? The Triborough, the Throgs Neck, the Henry Hudson, the Bronx-Whitestone, among others. He created parks such as Jones Beach, Fire Island, and Bethpage. He built buildings--some for the poor, some for the wealthy. He created stadiums (such as Shea). He had dams along the St. Lawrence River created; there is a large power plant along the Niagara River. And on the listing goes.A must read for those interested in Moses and in the power of public authorities. . . .

This is one of those books that sticks with you. I sing its praises all the time. I just want to offer a practical suggestion for reading it because there is no kindle version (WHY???) and it is a backbreaking brick to lug around.This was a tip from New York Magazine on "How to read 'The Power Broker'": Buy a cheap paperback version, tear it into thirds, read one third at a time. When you finish you will love this book so much that you will probably want to buy a hardcover version to have on your shelf.

I was curious about Robert Moses because a biography of Jane Jacobs was recently published. She was instrumental in stopping the Lower Manhattan Freeway that Robert Moses wanted. This was a monumental accomplishment as Moses controlled all municipal building in NYC for years and had a stranglehold on power even over numerous mayors. It took Governor Nelson Rockefeller to unseat him.What I found fascinating was Moses’ expert manipulation of the system of government in NY which gave him a stranglehold on power for years. His accomplishments cannot be denied. It is clear no one else had the capacity to build as many freeways, bridges and public works as he did in 44 years.Ok, now to the book. Clearly Caro deserved a Pulitzer for this. The research and detail is masterful. Others may disagree but I found the book riveting and felt it only bogged down once in over 1000 pages. I would have liked more information about Moses’s family but it may have been trimmed since the book was whittled down considerably before publishing.I now understand how our politicians can become so wealthy while in office. It’s all about the deals. A great look into power within the halls of government.

Several years ago, in a Barnes & Noble, I randomly picked up the first volume of Caro's books on Lyndon Johnson. It turned out to be one of those book that you have to buy because you can't stop reading it. I worked ("worked" is not really the right word - it's no work to read these books) through the first three books, then, while waiting for the fourth, looked around for other books by Caro, which is how I found The Power Broker. But the printed volume is a brick - one of those concrete ones they use to build walls with. And astonishingly, (publisher please note) THERE IS NO KINDLE VERSION (publisher please note). So for purposes of reading, the book is an anchor to your reading chair - you can't haul it around without a knapsack, so you can't read it mobilely.Happily, the book is available in audiobook form, and that's how I'm reading it. Despite some of the flaws identified in the 3 Star ratings below (which contain helpful reviews - worth reading despite the ratings) in my opinion this is a five star book. A five star book, to me, is one that I hesitate to put down and can't wait to take up again.The audio version takes up nearly 60 hours. The narrator does a terrific job. But most people's normal reading speed is much greater than his narration speed, and in my view, a book this size should be read, not heard. If only as a public service, the publisher should Kindle this book.

I bought this book a few years ago, I think on Amazon. It's around 1,200 pages and took forever to read at the rate of an hour a night. Was it worth it? Oh yeah. This is incredibly detailed, informative and is compelling reading. Mr. Caro did a magnificent job. I have a home library and I've read a lot of biographies. This is at the apex. It stands alone, above all others. I was incredibly impressed by the time I got to the end. And to this day, I still am.

Overall, a great book. At nearly 1200 pages, it weighs about 3-1/2 pounds, and is a bear to lug around on an airplane on vacation. Take my word for it, I lugged this thing all around the world, through Europe and the USA, what a mistake that was. Then I wound up leaving it a flight from DC to Portland last June, had to purchase another. arrrghghaghWith all due respect to Mr. Caro, even after 1167 pages, there is zero mention of Jane Jacobs and only passing reference to the fight over the lower Manhattan expressway. Meanwhile, this topic is discussed at length in part 7 of the Ric Burns' PBS television series documentary on New York, which even features Caro frequently as a commentator.I have also read all four volumes of Caro's LBJ biography. I enjoyed those more than this book. His writing style improved with the LBJ books. Power Broker gets a bit tedious, whereas the LBJ books were enthralling.

How to Be a Woman, by Caitlin MoranI’m a feminist, a strident feminist and a male. I have been for a long time. In 1965 I fought against women’s hours, which required college women to be in their dorms by 11:00 p.m. at Indiana University, while men were allowed to roam free all night. I’ve been married to a strident feminist since 1967, and recommend that path to anyone. So I’m reasonably well versed in feminist culture over the years.How to Be a Woman, by Caitlin Moran, is, hands down, the best source on feminism I’ve ever encountered. It surely helps that it is hilarious. It also helps that at least half the barbs are directed at herself, and most of the rest at other women. (Actually, she lets men off pretty easy.) She is shockingly frank about all sorts of socially unacceptable conduct in which she has engaged, such as binge drinking, drug use and promiscuity. But shining through is a deep understanding of things that women routinely experience from puberty through early middle age, and how to live and grow through them. Again and again she raises up values I value.To make it appropriate to all genders, I would restate her best known quote as: Feminism is believing that if you have a vagina you should be in charge of it.Her championing of guilt-free abortion is radical, finding it just as appropriate as deciding to bear a child. "By whatever rationale you use, ending a pregnancy 12 weeks into gestation is incalculably more moral than bringing an unwanted child into this world." She quotes a like minded friend: “It’s one of the top four best things I ever did—after marrying my husband, having my son, and getting a fixed quote on the loft conversion.”The trauma of her first pubic hairs resonates, I assure my female friends, quite fully with me as a male.I’m not sure quite how old young people should be before reading this book. It does unabashedly relate experiences that will make parents (and grandparents, teachers, etc.) cringe. But I’m not sure that it makes those experiences attractive, and much of what I know of those from 15 to 25 makes me think their culture normalizes such tales so universally that this book only puts them in a real world context that is OK with me. Such stories will be surely old hat to the bulk of college sophomores, and probably to many a high schooler, and too many in middle school.I’m not sure quite how liberated adults should be before reading this book. I surely have friends who will be shocked that I would recommend such trash. But I do. One person’s trash is another’s treasure. This book is a rare treasure.

You're a feminist.”I read this book as part of a feminist reading club on Goodreads. I had never really thought about being a feminist before. In fact, a feminist to me sounded like one of those red-faced, angry women protesting about something or the other, and always bitching about men. But guess what, being a feminist is about understanding yourself as a woman and defining the role you want to play for yourself in your own life. It's about taking control, it's about asserting our freedoms, and it's about celebrating our interactions with men in a way that is satisfying and fulfilling for both.Caitlin Moran tells her story in a relatable, humorous, and often irreverent style that did make me stop and think about many issues. Some of her life choices may be questionable, especially in the culture I was raised in, but hey, that's exactly the point. She can --and should-- choose what she believes is right for herself. In the end, I found her courageous for speaking things many of us will shy away from, and to find humor in it too.

As a 50 year old woman I can look back on my life and see how this book would have been VERY useful to read at age 15. It does not matter if your life is parallel to Ms. Moran's - or not. Actually, that's the point. For once we have a brave woman who is putting her experience out there for the world to see (and laugh about). I applaud her. Anyone who condemns her, condemns her because they are not as brave, honest or true to themselves. As women we have been dictated on how to behave by mostly religious and political members - that have been predominantly men. We need to unapologetically break the glass ceiling and feel the cool wind of change upon our faces. Ms. Moran reminiscences about the confusion of being an adolescent woman through humor, intelligence and tact. It is a journey I thoroughly enjoyed.

(Seriously, you earn $98,000 a year but can't pay child support? You JERK!)older women who were returning to finish degrees that had been nudged aside for marriage and family. Those broads rocked my world and led me away from the path of righteousness, and I THANK THEM every day for doing so. Thirty years have slipped by, and I've yet to find another group of women to whom I can say ANYTHING and not be judged. And, man, do I ever miss that! Now, if you talk about S-E-X, it's deemed T-M-I. Why is wanting to talk about something we all do too much information? Why does no one wants to go there?Well, Ms. Moran GOES THERE. From pubic hair (Yes!) to high heels (No!), she lets it all hang out. And what fun it was spending time with her. Though a continent and more than a decade separate us, I may possibly have more in common w/ Moran than any woman I've met in real life. I found her let-your-freak-flag-fly message to be reassuring, entertaining and pants-wettingly funny. Not everyone will like her, or her book. And that's okay. If even thinking about the f-word makes you blush, if you've never concocted an imaginary relationship with a male celebrity, or if you've never touched yourself "down there," put the book down and back away.If you're like me, you'll love it.Being a woman . . . after all these years, I'm pretty sure I've been doing it right.

Anthony Parker wrote the first edition in December 1968 and his aims built upon an earlier volume entitled “Modern Conveyancing Precedents” to create a complimentary twin.Rather like the excellent ‘Clarity for Lawyers’ by Mark Adler, solicitors will benefit from ‘Parker’ because his original aims were, and remain, to:• provide a comprehensive collection of precedents which produce the full legal effect intended;• make legal documents more comprehensible to clients, and thus to assist in relations between solicitors and the public;• avoid abuse of the English language found in many traditional precedents;• avoid the confusion of thought and expression found in some traditional precedents; and• Compose shorter legal documents, and so to save time and money for the profession and for clients.In nearly 40 years the profession has come a long way to meet Parker’s objectives.
