I purchased "Grey" in hopes that this book, written from Christian Grey's thoughts, would tell me why he became the way he was. I also wanted to know how "Mrs. Robinson" saved him and led him on the path to become a Multi-billionaire by age 26-27! I also wanted to know some details on Christian's life as a submissive, as well as some information on his past dominant/submissive relationships. I wanted some perspective of why he became so angry as a teenager, why his demeanor changed from one minute to the next (as described by Anastasia in the first novel. Well, according to MY OWN OPINION, there was almost NOTHING in this book that told me anything more than what I could get in the original trilogy!! To say I was disappointed would be a gross understatement!!! COME ON, E L JAMES-you could have done WAY, WAY, WAY, WAY BETTER THAN THIS. This waste of money book practically was a repeat of Book 1 in the Trilogy, except that Christian's "thoughts" about how hot Ana was and his reflections about how much hotter she would look, hanging from his suspension device, were interspersed inside of ANA's thoughts. Both of them had middle-school "crush" thoughts, with ALOT of gratuitous sex in between. How much "release" does a man have in the course of a few hours (I didn't want to put the sperm word in). This book was SO disappointing-a true RIP OFF-never giving anymore information than I could already have found out in the first book of the trilogy. The author could have made this a really interesting book if she would have told more of Christian's past and life. How does becoming a submissive make a man later become a billionaire?? E L JAMES RIPPED US OFF!!!

Years ago there was a lot of hype about the FSOG trilogy… it was on the news, women were discussing it quietly in lunchrooms while at work, men were either encouraging or discouraging their significant others to read it. People either loved it or hated it.I hadn’t picked up a book in years, life had just gotten too busy for me to indulge in someone else’s story. But, I like many others, just had to know what all this talk was about. So I took a chance and ordered all three paperbacks. I fell totally and completely in love with Ana and Christian, I mean head over heels in love! I just couldn’t flip those pages fast enough, I even learned to cook, amongst other household duties, with one hand just so I didn’t have to put my beloved paperback down. When I heard Christian’s POV was going to be released I was equally excited and scared. Let’s face it, the man is without a doubt, Fifty Shades of Messed Up and as much as I wanted to know what he was thinking I wasn’t sure if I could handle being in his mind. When I read Ana’s POV I remember being sad that she left at the end of the first book and thanking god I had the second book to dive into so I wouldn’t have to go any length of time before I knew what happened. She was just a girl that fell in love with a boy and it just didn’t work out or at least that’s what I thought at the time and it just made me sad.But having just finished Christian’s POV I am actually depressed, he just hurts my heart. I am surprised I feel that way because I know how this all plays out….. But nonetheless that’s how I feel. Watching this man fall in love and be willing to give up everything he knows and feels he needs because of his love for Ana is just everything!I am so glad to have had the chance to go back and revisit Ana and Christian via Christian’s POV. Job, well done, Ms. James. Thank you so much for giving us Christian’s story.

Some things to know up front:1. This is a retelling. If you've read the other novels it will seem somewhat repetitive but I mean what did you expect? You knew what this was before you read it.2. This is still a kinky, messed up, etc. book. If you didn't like the first novels I don't see why you would like this one. This type of book isn't for everyone. It doesn't mean it's bad, it just boils down to what you personally like.I actually loved this book. I read the original Fifty Shades of Grey and was apathetic about it. I found Anastasia and Christian to sometimes be annoying and unrelatable. I especially disliked Christian. I couldn't imagine why any woman would want to be with someone like him. However reading Grey, I absolutely love Christian now. I don't know what it is, but seeing everything through his eyes made me sympathetic toward him. I found him to be more charming and sexy this time around. Ana is also much more likable in this version. She seems mysterious, strong, sexy and lovable. Her annoying features pretty much disappeared for me.In Fifty Shades of Grey their relationship never made sense to me. Ana always questioned everything and Christian spent most of his time annoyed with Ana and complaining. I couldn't understand why these two people were trying to make the relationship work. However in Grey, you really get to see how much Christian is obsessed with Ana and how much he truly cares about her. He hardly ever gets mad or annoyed with her. Their relationship is much more alluring in Grey and I found myself finally rooting for the two of them.Overall I liked reading from Christian's perspective so much better then Ana's. So much so that I don't think I could ever go back to the original book. This is so much better to me.If you loved the other books, I still think you'll love this novel as well! It really will make you fall in love with Christian. The only thing I will note, the author made some baffling mistakes. Some of the lines from the first book are changed in this one. Maybe it's just an attempt to fix some of the issues people had with the first novel but it's still strange. I have to agree with others that it is a huge editing mistake and comes off as lazy.

This is the best vampire anthology I have ever encountered. When it first came out in 2009 I got the paperback edition (no hardback ever offered, I think). Later I also got the Audible edition, although I have not listened to that in its entirety (appears to be excellent, as well). The paperback unfortunately uses a small font and very poor paper quality. Why, after all these years, has the editor (the great Otto Penzler) and the publisher (Vintage Crime/Black Lizard) not sought to offer this anthology in Kindle/ebook format? This is a massive volume, which again uses a small font and poor paper, and if there was ever a book that would be great to carry around on my Kindle, this is it. Vintage Crime/Black Lizard has offered other huge anthologies similar to this one, in the thriller/detective genre, etc., in Kindle form -- why not this one?

A great anthology of the genre spanning many years. From pre-Dracula to the present. A good insight into the writing styles of then and now can be had, not only in the treatment of Vampiric tales, but writing generally. If you love reading about Vampires and want to explore the subject further this is a good start.

If you love vampire stories, you'll love this collection. There are well known stories from masters (King, Bradbury, Beaumont, etc.) as well as some obscure stories.

Every fall, I revisit horror classics in film and in books and when I saw "The Vampire Archives", I just knew I had to have it. The contents are amazing in the breadth of vampire stories and at 1034 pages, this is one heavy tome. The biggest flaw in this publication is in the abysmal binding and paper quality. The paper is flimsy and as careful as I am with all my books, I don't see how this book is going to hold up over repeated use. The cover is flimsy too and as much as I love the cover art (reminds me of those classic Hammer horror flicks), I think the publishers could have done so much better. Perhaps in the future, this could be re-issued as a two volume edition in hardcover and with better quality paper. That would be ideal.OK, ranting aside, the contents are impressive. As some reviewers have noted, there are some significant omissions, notably John Polidori's "The Vampyre" (though it merits a mention in the bibliography at the back of the book). Here's a listing of all the stories contained in this tome:Pre-DraculaGood Lady Ducayne - M.E. This anthology is great. There are stories by any number of authors from the past through to today. Love them all.

This Vampire book is huge (which is great). My only complaint is the choice of paper the publishers used. The cover as well as the actual pages feel like ultra thin rice paper. (Think phone book quality) I have no problem with it being a paper back, but a book this thick could've (and needed) a thicker paper for the cover as well as some better quality paper inside.

Great anthology! Purchased used as a gift, received in good condition.

Very good

The cover is classic! Lift and Separate is a brilliant title for the story of a woman who is the victim of her husband's midlife crisis that he apparently waited to have until he was almost a senior citizen. I thought Marcy was way too good for a man would do what Harvey did to her. I really cheered her on. It wasn't the typical midlife crisis because they were too old for that, but she didn't just roll over and give up when he left her. She took the promotion she had been offered and created a new life that worked for her. I was glad he gave her a second chance to have the life she deserved!

This is a book that had been on my radar for quite some time--I mean, just look at that title. I also follow the author on Facebook (she is hilarious), so I felt like it was going to be the perfect vacation read. And it was, but it wasn't quite what I expected. I went into reading this thinking it would be a light romp featuring a more mature heroine. Instead, I found a more thought-provoking and sensitive novel, which still led me to laugh more times than I could count.I appreciate that Rothstein was able to balance humor and seriousness. The scenario of a long-standing marriage in jeopardy is not a funny one and Rothstein never tries to make light of it. Instead, the humor comes from Marcy's insight and reactions. Not only does this lighten the mood, but it adds great depth to Marcy. I found her to be a believable and sympathetic character, and one that I rooted for.Around Marcy is a colorful cast of characters. Rothstein hits the sweet spot for the size of her supporting cast. Every character plays an integral role in Marcy's life and they help to propel the plot forward. Each person was distinct and fleshed out, with the exception of Harvey. But, honestly, this book isn't about Harvey. He's obviously important to the situation, but what is going through his mind isn't important to the story.Once I was able to devote time to this book, I was hooked. The plot moves smoothly and swiftly and Marcy's experiences were authentic and believable. There were many times when I really wasn't sure what decision Marcy would make and, even if I didn't agree with what she chose, I could still believe that she would choose it.This was an entertaining novel with more depth than I expected. It is one that I would recommend to anyone wanting something humorous and deceptively un-fluffy.

Highly enjoyable, well written first novel by this author! I especially liked the CT references with slight alterations (St Mordechai..)! A great escape on a cold winter's day (could have easily read in one sitting if the dog could take care of himself..)

Paperback, 304 pagesPublished December 1st 2016 by Lake Union PublishingMY REVIEW OF “LIFT AND SEPARATE”: A Novel by Marilyn Simon RothsteinKudos to Marilyn Simon Rothstein, author of “Lift and Separate” for an enjoyable, amusing, and “uplifting” novel. The genres for this novel are Women’s Fiction and Fiction. The timeline of the story is told in the present. The setting for the story is in Connecticut where the main characters live. I really love the delightful way in which the author weaves her tale around the characters. The author describes the colorful characters as complex, complicated, confused, quirky and in a few instances a few cards short of a full deck. Harvey Hammer is the head of a major global brassiere empire, and makes a lucrative living and a comfortable life for his wife Marcy and their three adult children. They have a gorgeous home and the best of everything. So what is wrong, you may ask? Marilyn loves to volunteer and is business minded. She has also been at home with her children and has done the best she can in bringing them up. She gets to have lunch with a close friend, and chat with her older Mom. Marilyn will probably tell you that Harvey is a generous tipper to a fault, and only wants the best of everything. Again, you might wonder what is wrong with this picture?Harvey is not sure what he wants. Harvey did want a well endowed 22 year old model in his lingerie department. Now he isn’t sure if he wants to come home or not. Marcy is hurt and devastated, but does lift herself up, and deal with the problems that life throws her way. There are secrets, and strained friendships, and Marcy’s children have some problems as well.Marilyn Simon Rothstein uses her storytelling ability with wonderful wit and a sense of humor, making this such an emotional, heartwarming and delightful story. I appreciate that the author discusses the importance, of family, friends, loyalty, trust, love, hope, faith and growth. I would recommend this for readers who enjoy Women’s fiction. I really enjoyed this “uplifting novel”. Happy Reading!Share

I couldn’t put “Lift and Separate” down! This brilliant, funny novel was written from the heart. If you’ve ever experienced a difficult period, as I and so many women have, this book's for you. The marvelous story, told from an honest perspective, took me through lots of emotions. I felt the main character’s pain and appreciated her humor in the face of it. As she deals with trials and tribulations, Marcy is wise, generous and insightful. Nice that this lovely lady is a 59-year-old who’s rediscovering her confidence with the help of her loyal grown children and supportive friends. I really related to Marcy. I admired the heroine as she handled everything that life threw at her, always armed with an arsenal of wisecracks. Marcy’s a resilient character and a great wife, mother, daughter and friend no matter life’s ups and downs, even the way-downs. This well-crafted, engaging and uplifting book resonated with me as it will for every woman who juggles husband, kids, family, career and community. I loved every moment of “Lift and Separate.” It’s a great read and I wholeheartedly recommend it. In fact, I’ve ordered five copies as Christmas gifts – three for friends, one for my mom and one for my sister.

Cherese Akhavein's review Jan 04, 2019 · editit was amazingThe Amish Midwife’s Secret by Rachel GoodWhat do you do when your heart is leading you one place and your brain is leading you in another? Well this is an excellent book of how torn one young man Kyle Miller is when his world comes colliding head first into what he once knew and what he once tried to forget, Also you will meet young Leah Stoltzfuz who’s life’s work of being a Midwife while also working in her families Natural herbs and products store beings her to know many ways of treating the Amish Community with natural products. When the local Dr, offers Kyle the opportunity to take over his practice so he can retire, Kyle struggles with old hurts and past mistakes, can he let go and trust God when he does not even believe in God, and how can he work with a Midwife who deals with Natural products and puts all these people at risk, then again how can he not when he looks at Leah.Rachel Good has done it again with this book, this is an amazing story of understanding, knowledge, Forgivness, trust, respect. You will love this story line and I’m looking forward to the next book in the series. I highly recommend this book.

The Amish Midwife’s Secret by Rachel J. Good is an incredibly heartwarming novel of forgiveness, new beginnings and love. This second installment in the Love and Promises series can be read as a standalone but I also recommend the previous book, The Amish Teacher’s Gift, as well.Dr. Kyle Miller is surprised by an out of the blue phone call from a doctor who lives in his hometown of Lancaster, PA. He is also shocked by Dr. Hess’s proposal for Kyle to move back to Lancaster and take over his practice so he can retire. Since Kyle has worked very hard to forget about his past, he has no intention of accepting Dr. Hess’s generous offer. However, as he is trying to work up the courage to turn the doctor down, Kyle instead finds himself agreeing to spend a few days working with Dr. Hess in his practice. Will Kyle change his mind once he goes back to the place that still haunts him? Or will the trip convince him he is right to say no to Dr. Hess?Leah Stoltzfus is in training to become a midwife despite the fact that she won’t be able to get her certification. She is also rather overwhelmed by her other responsibilities which include working fulltime in the family’s holistic store and caring for her Mamm. Leah is involved in a courtship with an Amish young man whose expectations about married life are a source on contention.Leah is a caring and compassionate young woman who always puts other people’s needs ahead of her own. She is also an obedient young women so it comes as shock when she finds herself at cross purposes with Kyle during their initial meeting. As a member of the medical community, Kyle is upset by some of the decisions she makes for her patients.Despite their differences and much to their dismay, Kyle and Leah share a mutual attraction for one another. Leah is appalled at her interest in another man since her courtship with Ben means they are expected to marry. Kyle carries plenty of guilt and heartache from his teenage romance with an Amish young woman. Not only has he avoided any type of romantic entanglement since, he absolutely refuses to even contemplate becoming involved with another Amish woman. As Leah and Kyle spend time together at Dr. Hess’s medical practice, will they be able to continue to ignore their deepening feelings? The Amish Midwife’s Secret is a heartfelt journey of self-forgiveness, faith and love. Kyle is a wonderful man whose inability to move on from a heartrending incident in his past continues to guide his life choices in the present. Leah treasures her faith but some of her dreams are at odds with the tenets of her religion. The romance between Kyle and Leah is endearing but can they overcome the seemingly insurmountable differences between them?Rachel J. Good’s newest addition to the her delightful Love and Promises series is heartwarming, thought-provoking and ultimately, uplifting. I thoroughly enjoyed and highly recommend this charming Amish romance to fans of the genre.I received a complimentary copy for review.

Kyle left his hometown behind after a heartbreaking young romance and a devasting accident with no plans to ever return. When the local doctor asks him to take over his medical practice, Kyle feels the need to help. What Kyle did not expect was to fall in love with Leah. Leah is the Amish midwife who believes that holistic healing herbs and faith in God are the best healing medicines. Can Kyle and Leah overcome their differences to let love have a chance? This book kept me up way past my bedtime more times than I can count. I also found myself ignoring everything that needed to be accomplished after work just so I could dive back into Kyle and Leah's story. You cannot help but believe in love and the power of love when you read this story. I became a little weepy as I read because it was so tender.I am also more interested in the holistic healing properties of organic herbal teas for chronic illness. I have found a new interest. Leah's story was very convincing in how well they can work. This is the second book in the Love and Promises series but each book can be read as a stand-alone. It is a beautiful Christian romance with no obscene sexual overtones or scenes, no foul language and not overly religious (meaning scripture verses on every page). I would feel comfortable giving this to a teen girl or my ninety-year-old grandmother to read.I received a copy of this book from Forever (Grand Central Publishing) through NetGalley. Any and all opinions expressed in the above review are entirely my own.
