Passed my Server+ cert with a score of 842 using only this book (there was a lot of prayer involved too though, lol). I really like how the book is laid out and it's simplicity. Every piece of info in the book is important, very little fat. know your stuff!on the downside, it has some typos (though not too bad), and some of the port numbers are not correct in their lists, it also does not cover UPS calculations very well.all in all though, I would definitely use this book again. It covers over 90% of what was on the exam.

Crammed for three weeks, passed exam with higher than an 850. There were some items not covered by the book, but I either already knew the answer, or the book gave me the information I needed to make an intelligent guess. There was almost no question that I could not use what the book did cover to immediately eliminate 2 answers.

I purchased this book after reading the positive reviews. I was not disappointed! I liked the hands-on examples -- they really help to drill in the material. There isn't a lot of fluff or filler -- the information is to the point. It covered all of the objectives thoroughly . I took my test today and passed with an 861 on the first try. I felt well prepared, and didn't get the dreadful "I'm going to fail" feeling that I usually have during these CompTIA exams. I would highly recommend this book to anyone studying for the Server + exam!

So a few things with textbooks. I have never found such a good book since the A+ Passport for A+. I found the N and Sec+ books a complete disaster as there is really no completely reliable reference for those subjects.This book however is just right. It covered the correct depth to the subject of the Server+ but it is not to be relied on solely as a reference. Other books have been actually terrible compared to this one in not covering whole subjects you're not at all tested on. I could have knocked them a star over power supplies as this was missing in this book but you should completely grasp in preparation. There are just so many brands of junk books where they "throw" everything at the reader.With that said, you better have a really really good grasp of at least A+ and Sec+ or this exam could still eat you alive after reading this book. If you want to pass than this book's contents than you should know all of this content cold.

I solely used this book for this exam and barely passed with a 792. It does not cover every question on the exam. Sybex book version by Troy McMillan would probably be a better source to read for new folks who have not had a chance or opportunity to see a data center in detail or a server in detail for a rack mount or blade server. This McGraw Hill source is only good for Server hardware techs I believe that see this stuff daily. A lot of the paragraphs do not go into specific detail. The hands-on exercises are good for this book. Love the pre-setup instructions and line by line instructions. More pictures of real data center racks to show examples of each server role, and how many servers for that role, etc. would be good to see to get better physical understanding. Also on provided disk put files of IT documentation for each type of document used thru out its life cycle. This certification is good to get you working as a data center tech position dealing with the base level of this material, then moving on to study for your Server MCSA, VMware certs, then Cloud Administrator. Path to take would be as recommended Server+, MTA 98-365, Server 2012/2016 MSCA, Linux+, VMware VCA/VCP, then Cloud Administration.

I took the Server+ test after I passed the Trifecta (A+/Network+/Security+) and this was my only study resource. Given I had just done those previously about 2/3 of the material in this book was covered in those other three certifications and so there wasn't that much new material. The main stuff was on servers or network storage in much greater detail than the previous three certificates. This exam also is a bit dated now and because of that is quite easy to prep for. Out of the 2 tests for A+, Net+, Sec+, and this I felt this was the easiest CompTIA exam I have taken (I also scored the highest on this out of any one I have taken). This also has a benefit that the other three do not and that is they are not on a continuing education cycle so this certificate is lifetime certificate and never has to be renewed. Nice and easy resume booster if you already have a little IT experience. I passed the Trifecta and had less than 5 months at a help desk position before I passed this so if you are good at studying and retaining the material the hands on experience isn't as important to get this under your belt. As I previously stated this was the only study material I used for it. Comes with a CD that has like 200 practice questions on it. Not dead accurate to what is on the test but no study test is. If you know the material you will do fine on test using just this to study from.

Worked perfectly as a sole source of study for Server+ SK0-004; I passed by a mile.The book's layout is sensible. There's not much fluff, so you'll move from topic to topic at an almost jarring rate. Just what you need, nothing you don't. I think the practice questions in the book and on the disc are pretty representative of the style of questions you'll see on exam day and well worth taking time to review.It's a super cheap book too, so....probably just buy it, read it, and sit for the exam, eh?I'm already Net+/Sec+ certified, and much of Server+ could be considered review, so bear that in mind.

I passed this exam yesterday with a score of 850 only using this book and a few practice exams online. There were a couple of questions that weren’t covered in this book as others have mentioned, however, that’s how it is with most exams in my experience. I also have my A+, Net+, and Sec+, so that helped a lot. I’d recommend having at least the A+ with some Net+ and Sec+ training/studying before taking the Server+ to make it pretty easy. That, and/or real world experience. Overall, I’d definitely recommend this book- it’s to the point, and adequate.

They have spent most of their recorded history preparing for, fighting, and (sometimes) recovering from wars resulting from political transitions, outside pressures, expansionist drives, and sometimes sheer cussedness... In this way, the Sword World peoples have gone through many of the same wrenching socio-economic shifts that the much larger First and Second Imperium, but all concentrated in a far smaller area of space, and it has been far messier here than the Imperium given the scale. There is a lot of history in this area, and its people tend to hold grudges a long time.From a gaming standpoint, its a great way to be a Human outsider if playing in Imperial space without connection to the scheming overbearing bureaucrats of Terra, traders/explorers not bound to some Imperial noble, megacorp, or the like. For those coming from outside the Sword Worlds, its an area of great opportunity offset by very touchy locals with a history of nuking each other--in a very literal sense--down to bedrock. All this, sandwiched between the Aslan, the Imperium, and the Zhodani, with areas of contact with the Vargr and Darrians.What could possibly go wrong?

A great, detailed look at a very interesting group of worlds in the Spinward Marches. I wish I'd had this back in the early 80s when I started playing Traveller! As it is, this book will keep a campaign going for years...or just add a potential source of intrigue to any Spinward Marchines-oriented campaign. Great stuff!

Or another way to describe it is as a play in which the actors choose their own actions and the director or "Gamemaster" must oversee and direct the plot knowing his actors have free will. Many, perhaps most of what I have given is fammiliar to my readers. But Traveller is different. It is a work of genius, a splendid science-fiction world of multifaceted complexity set in the far future. Games can involve political intrigue, exploration, trading and whatever ones heart desires. It is not a utopia, nor a dystopia like many Sci-fi's but a world that is believable. It is a world that is different yet similar to ours. But at the same time, "Vive La difference."Sword Worlds is my favorite of the Gurps Traveller series. It describes a cluster of nations and cultures in a group of planets sandwiched between the mighty Zhodani Consulate and the Vast Third Imperium. The Sword Worlders are clannish and traditionalist peoples who emphasize their Germanic and Scandinavian heritage. They are not pictured as perfect and they are forever quarreling with their neighbors and one another. Yet they are survivors and they have a "character" of their own, a contrarian way of thinking and a grim determination to be who they are.The Sword Worlds sourcebook is a boon for any who wish to play a campaign set among Swordworlders. And it is a blessing for those like me that do not play but read the book for itself. It gives the political relations between Swordworlder states, substates and alliances, the history of the Sworldworlds and the various and sundry customs of the Sworldworlder people. It gives splendid characters. And it gives a number of preset campaigns that are some of the best in the series. The best campaign of all is the epic "100 parsecs" campaign which could easily be made into a movie.Perhaps the best thing I can say about Sword Worlds is that it was not long enough. It is an attractive book and well worth the while of any Traveller fan new or old.

This ambitious book by Stephen E. Pyne approaches the massive ice-sheet of Antarctica from all possible angles and has been appropriately hailed as a pathbreaking study. Upon its publication in 1986, "The Ice: A Journey to Antarctica" immediately gained credence as a profound exploration of the sublime nothingness of the continent. Pyne touches on the elements of Antarctica emphasized it as a realm of history, a place of dominant landscapes, an inspiration for literature and art, and a scientific treasure trove. He argues that for all of its geology and geography, geomagnetism and weather, biology and boredom, Antarctica remains at sum a diminished location in which water has been transformed into mineral. There are no cultural studies beyond those on the explorers themselves.As many have commented, the ice of Pyne's characterization is a study in nihilism. According to one reviewer, "The appeal of this rich and awestruck book lies in its author's strenuous attempts to come to terms with the sheer negativity and materialism of Antarctica" (Kirkus Review, available on-line at http://www.amazon.co.uk/Ice-Antarctica-Stephen-J-Pyne/dp/1842126741, accessed February 15, 2009). As another reviewer remarked, "Pyne uses two metaphors throughout the book. Antarctica is an information sink, requiring the input of huge amounts of information before it will give anything in return; it is a reductionist, abstract environment, both physically and intellectually alienating. Second, Antarctica is a distorted mirror, reflecting back what each individual and culture brings to it." Pyne offers "a mystical mood in this book that hints that human endeavors in Antarctica will never really touch "The Ice" (Richard Gillespie, review in "Isis" 78 (September 1987): 456-57). Environmental historian Donald Wooster commented about Pyne's Antarctica, "To penetrate it scientifically required airplanes, remote sensors, and advanced crystallography. To apprehend it aesthetically took the modernist evolution in the arts, which has emphasized abstraction, subjectivity, and minimalism."All of these reviewers agree, however, that this is a powerful, important book requiring consideration in any study of Antarctica.

Like the previous reviewer, I too quailed at the start of this book. Immediately I was plunged to half page paragraphs and dense terms, swimming between excessive description and dense science. But, I'm a geologist. I've been to Antarctica. I knew I could do it...I suspect that this book will remain unsurpassed for being an all encompassing tome on Antarctica for decades, possibly even centuries ... maybe even until we emerege from this interglacial period and the Western Ice sheet melts, thus giving up the secrets to climate control and Antarctica. I can't imagine much has been left out at all - Pyne is unbelievably, incredibly thorough. Every facet of the ice, and every facet he could think to associate with ice has been methodically slotted into this book. And if he ran out of talking about anything to do with the ice, he'd talk about Antarctica.But this book is very, very, very, VERY heavy going. I set myself a goal of 25 pages/night - but it still took 2 months to read... Sometimes, I just had to take a break. And as I ploughed ever onwards, I constantly wondered, 'how would someone be able to read this if they hadn't actually been to Antactica???' And other times, I even qualified that with a "would anyone really understand this if they weren't a geologist or in a similar field?' I mean, Pyne can be descriptive, but at other times, adjectives seem to be insufficient, so he swoops into heavy scientific jargon.I also missed having some diagrams. A few 'colour' photos even... (Ok, colour is a bit misleading - its all white, blue and grey down there...). Antarctica is so stark and sparse, that sometimes, it is just better to look at a photograph of the deep glacier blue of ice (well, actually, WHY ice is blue was something Pyne overlooked in this book, now I think of it! Rainbows and bubbles people...), or a vast plain of continental ice, or the weird solar and weather patterns that can pervade above the ice...If you can't make it down to Antarctica, but want to become an authority on it, then you can go no further than this book. If wading through the heaviest and densest book written in a long time is something you will need to build up to, the maybe start with something like, Antarctica: The Blue Continent, and see if you want to progress from there - at least then you will have some pictures in mind of what to expect when Pyne melts into deep prose...
