In this update of the Death Of WCW, which has about double the pages of the original book, many things are covered that weren't in the original such as various angles that weren't covered the first book such as the Black Scorpian angle, the monster truck battle between Big Show and Hulk Hogan, and several more and they all have a common theme, they make absolutely no sense, a WCW tradition.A real eye opener was Jim Herds comments. Herd, who famously fired Ric Flair in the summer of 1991 following failed contract negotiations, basically admits that firing Flair was a huge mistake and that he was the best performer in the entire company by far. It's amazing what hindsight does to people.Moving on, the book has new asides. These are titled Lesson Not Learned in which mistakes by WCW are stunningly repeated by the WWE and in some cases TNA in the coming years, long after the company dies. The staggering details of Hulk Hogan 's first WCW contract are also revealed.Lance Storm also talks about his first night in the WWE which is a good read. It's too bad Vince Russo was not interviewed for this book. I would have loved to hear his side of things as he's portrayed as a clueless baffoon throughout the first and second versions of the book. Jim Cornette, a sworn enemy of Russo, rips him for his lack of understanding of psychology in wrestling. Psychology in wrestling is extremely important so it's easy to see why Russo struggled so much in WCW as nothing he came up with made any sense.A key thing that was eliminated in this version was Bischoffs role in creating the confusing Team Challenge Series in the AWA. It was long accepted as fact but Bischoff said he had nothing to do with in his book and there's nothing else to back up the claim so out it went.At the end of the book is a long list, though I swear it's only a partial list of the general idiocy in TNA, with many mistakes eerily similar of the mistakes WCW made.Anyway it's definitely worth the money even though it's largely the same book.

Sources notwithstanding (I generally question online dirt sheet facts due to the very evasive nature of the wrestling business and the people inside of it), even if some of the facts may be a bit skewed, such a good read. Learning about the ebbs and flows of one of the biggest 'grab defeat from the jaws of victory' stories in the history of sports OR entertainment, you are taken back to a time, possibly the last, when wrestling could do no wrong. Attendance figures, ratings, financial figures; even if you're not a numbers guy and just wanna hear about backstage scuttlebutt, this is an excellent read for a slightly-above hardcore-level wrestling fan (especially if you lived through the Attitude Era).

As a wrestling fan I have often heard about The Death of WCW book but just never read it. One day while listening to a podcast I heard Bryan Alvarez being interviewed and he mentioned the 10th anniversary book was available for Kindle so I decided to get it. I enjoyed reading it and finding out what was happening behind-the-scenes at WCW during the Monday Night Wars. I also really liked the additions at the end of chapters where Alvarez highlights what brought down WCW in the chapter and did current organizations learn from these past mistakes. Spoiler the answer is usually "no".If you're a fan of wrestling and especially the WCW/Monday Night War/WWE Attitude Era than I think this book will be really interesting to you. For younger readers it is a good look at what amounts to a minute in wrestling history.

The is a revised edition of the original book and is a great cautionary tale of what not to do when running a wrestling promotion. WCW, for what it's worth made history that changed the face of pro wrestling. There will never be another wrestling promotion that can compete with McMahon's WWE within the next decade or ever. Those who lived to witness the "Golden Age" of wrestling in the mid to late 90s will never forget the days when story lines were at their peek and wrestling was the hottest thing going. This book covers a lot of ground and gives you a sense of what went wrong in WCW which killed itself with mismanagement of talent and money.

Not a bad read but the writing style does get tedious after a while. Fun to get a different picture of all the behind the scenes shenanigans. Sorry they screwed it up so badly though, I really liked WCW during it's better years.

A very easy and well structured read. The authors, for the most part, try not to speculate on the faults of WCW as a company, but rather present facts and historical examples of the business where WCW management didn't learn. This leads a reader to consider how a business is impacted, not just a wrestling business, by faulty management. While the authors most likely don't have business degree backgrounds (and why they probably didn't elaborate more on business theory) the book can be a good teaching tool for any company executive. With a small understanding of the inner workings of pro-wrestling, the book allows the reader to see how mismanagement of talent/employees, lack of cash reserve, short term v long term objectives, and failure to understand a customer base can ruin one's business at a rapid pace.Ultimately you see that a company who adopts a #1 or None mindset will eventually achieve the later part of that goal. To see how management could take a guaranteed successful property for several decades to come, provided the show minimal fiscal responsibility, and disregard that responsibility at ever opportunity, serves to remind how fast a fun thing like WCW can turn to tragedy. For a wrestling fan, this book is the ultimate recap of found memories and what could have been. So many sport books and documentaries focus on athletes that never lived up to potential. WCW is the ultimate example of this. No former #1 draft pick, All American, Collegiate Player of the Year who busted in pros can match how WCW went from being the most dominate name in the industry to the industry's biggest joke.

What a delight to find a book written by a Westerner that (at least to my taste) demonstrates some realization and not just scholarliness. This book is so refreshing and celebrates what I hope are the first drops of what will become a rain of dharma blessings by non-Tibetan authors. Another author who also has some realization is psychologist Daniel P. Brown.Eh Ma Ho!The introduction, some 55 pages, is very well written and nicely demanding of our attention – instructive. The other 120 or so pages, the actual commentary by Brunnhölzl is more loosely written and while still quite rewarding, but not as succinct as the introduction, IMO.It is clear that Brunnhölzl practices what he preaches, so to speak, and his writing represents, as mentioned, some actual dharma realization on his part. How welcome! If I have any criticisms of this book, they are few. Brunnhölzl’s style of writing is very consistent, but perhaps that consistency deserves IMO a little more variation or “breathing” (like expanding and narrowing of the scope) that resuscitates the reader as we dig through his meaningful text. At least I find this true of the commentary section. And my other criticism is that the great many analogies, etc., while they liven up the texts, are a little mundane. I wish they were more poetical.Other than that, this book is a good sign of what I look for in modern Western Buddhism. Years ago, when I asked my Rinpoche when we could stop doing our practice in Tibetan and use English, his answer was that it would take time and we are waiting for Americans to enlighten themselves and write our own texts and sadhanas. Hmmm. That had not occurred to me. LOL.

Life changing book, because it changes your view of "reality." It delves into the heart sutra, and explains "emptiness". It was recommended by Pema Chodron, otherwise I never would have chosen it bc of the odd title.

Who knew the Heart Sutra would be so much fun to explore? The examples used in this book were easy to work with, like how the author talked in depth about how we misinterpret the word 'empty' and all the connotations we put on it, like 'empty wallet'. He did not dumb down this compact sutra, but rather he elevated the way I think about it. I've loaned out my copy to a friend, and am thinking of buying another for my own reference in case I don't get it back. It is well worth reading, and more than once. I am delighted to find an explanation of the Heart Sutra that is both meaty and manageable.

It's very readable, and the author appears to have read all the prior commentaries, so he sums up what has been said before, explains the issues clearly, and makes a convincing case as to why the sutra is so significant. I learned a great deal and it held my attention.

EXCELLENT read about the Heart Sutra, looking into every possible aspect of this traditional chant of the Buddhist practitioner.Nirvana is already here.

When seeing this book, one might perhaps have two mistaken ideas. One is saying: "Why another commentary on the Heart Sutra? Aren't there many already?" Another mistaken thought could be: "The books by Khenpo Karl Brunnhölzl are too technical, too difficult; this is not for me." When you open the Heart Attack Sutra book, you will find for yourself that both of these expectations are false. The author chose a masterful balance in writing this commentary. On one hand, it is lively, experiential, humorous, and full of practical instructions on how to engage the Heart Sutra as a contemplative manual: how to take the words of the sutra to one's heart on the meditation cushion and how to use the message the ancient sutra conveys in everyday life in today's world. The essence of this approach is captured in this quote from p. 142:"The Heart Sutra is not primarily about all phenomena (be they skandhas or the four noble truths) as objects, but it is always pointing back to our mind as the subject and how it deals with all these objects. How do we deal with our eyes, our ears, our nose, our tongue, and our body? How do we deal with our sense perceptions? How do we deal with our suffering? How do we deal with the causes of suffering? How do we deal with our path?"On the other hand, this is no dharma-lite booklet for bedtime reading. Khenpo Karl brings into his narrative the vast knowledge of the Prajñaparamita sutras commentarial tradition, skillfully quoting definitions, classifications, etymologies and meanings of the technical terms quoted in or associated with the sutra, accompanied by present-day examples elucidating the meaning. The author based his Heart Sutra commentary on the Indian commentaries, selected Tibetan commentaries as well as Chinese and contemporary Western commentaries and he refers to them throughout. He is also relying on his extensive study of the commentaries on both explicit and hidden meaning of Prajñaparamita as evidenced by his voluminous publications of Center of the Sunlit Sky, Gone Beyond I & II and Groundless Paths. As for the content, the book consists of the meaning commentary in the Introduction followed by the word commentary going through each passage. Khenpo Karl comments on a word or a sentence of the sutra from the technical point of view and then illustrates how this passage can be readily used for contemplation, for practice, for spiritual transformation. Finally, the book also includes an instruction on the practice of the Prajñaparamitahridaya Sadhana by Mahasiddha Darika. Even though this sadhana has been translated and commented upon elsewhere (Elaborations on Emptiness, Donald Lopez), without Khenpo Karl's clear practice instructions, it is difficult if not impossible to put this lovely visualization - which is enacting the story of the Heart Sutra, very much like a theatre play - into practice. In sum, when enjoying such balance between precision and readability, a miracle of a sort happens: while reading this book, you are drawn into the narrative as if wanting to finish it in one sitting - like a detective story with a humorous undertone - and at the same time you are being served the dharma without compromise, gems of traditional scholarship, which in other contexts would put most people to sleep. But here both approaches not only can coexist side by side, but are even enhancing each other, feeding the fire of prajña arising from such delightful reading. And so one can rightfully ask a question: Isn't the Heart Attack Sutra book an evidence of the genuine western Buddhism actually taking root, where the western approach to narration is employed without compromising on the precision of the traditional discourse? It is, for me. For that reason this is not yet another, redundant commentary, this is a unique masterpiece and is worth reading for all who aspire to be followers of the genuine tradition of the Heart Sutra. This Heart Attack Sutra is truly the attack for the ego's heart and therefore it is a delight for the heart aspiring for freedom.

This is a hot sexy menage romance story. When Kennedy moved to Blackthorne mountain at first it was to get away from an abusive ex and be close to her sister and niece but then she decided to stay. She opened her vet practice. She had her eye on two handsome hunks that looked. like their bodies were sculpted from stone. But she made an agreement to herself no more badboys. Her ex was a bad boy an at first nice but no long the abuse started. After finally getting away from him she decided no more bad boys.So when she realized it was eleven at night she decides it was time to leave the office and go home. When there was a hurried hard knock on the back door of her vet clinic then she heard her name. She recognized the voice it was Landon she owned the door and he asked for help Caleb was bleeding badly and it looked like a bullet hole. She tried to get Landon to take Caleb to the hospital but Landon said no hospital no cops so rather than let Caleb bleed to death she decided to help. When she was going to give Caleb morphine he said no drugs I'm clean so no drugs. Then he grabbed her and laid a hot kiss on her leaving her spinning. She told Landon to hold him down and she took out the bullet and stitched him up.As she was cleaning up the instead Landon was watching her.Landon and Caleb were closer than brothers they both wanted Kennedy but agreed to stay away because their past could come back and bring trouble and they couldn't live with themselves if Kennedy got hurt. But he couldn't help himself he kissed Kennedy and ran his hands over her but when Caleb groaned she backed away saying no this can't happen. She told them to stay the night she's check Caleb in the morning. Will Kennedy give into her feelings for Landon and Caleb? Will danger threatened their new beginnings together? Will Kennedy do something that saves Landon and Caleb? Will they find their happy ever after just the three of them? This story has action, danger, suspense, hot as hell sex scenes, and love.I love the way this amazing author brings the characters to life before your eyes and you can feel their emotions and their pain.I can hardly wait to see what's next by this multi talented author.

This story, which takes place on the same mountain as the author's other mountain man books., is basically a Menage story with lots of hot sex but only a little story that revolves around Landon's and Caleb's past involvement with the underworld. So I would recommend this to those looking for a steamy story but not to those looking for a meaty plot.Plot: 3Writing: 3.8Editing: 3.8Characters: 4Heat index: 5

Another hot sexy read that you won’t want to put down. Kennedy didn’t want a bad boy again but it looks like she got 2. Kennedy, Caleb and Landon’s chemistry is off the charts. I love Kennedy, Caleb and Landon together, especially there hot sex scenes. Another great read and I can’t wait for more.

Amazing the continuation to the series! I love all of the Black thorn Mountain men but Caleb and Landon may be my favorites. The love and the devotion that they display towards Kennedy makes my heart melt. The men thought they escaped their past going to Blackthorne Mountain but their old rival has hunted them down to the mountain. Will they be able to protect Kennedy when the past catches up with them? I can’t wait for more from this author!!

I voluntairly received and voluntairly review an Advanced Reader Copy of Her Double Mountain Outlaws. Oh my double troubled cold shower hades. Loved this book. Just when I think she written the most over the top in my limited imagination, then she produces this book which had me hooked from the very beginning. A very easy to read, over the top in hunky alpha heat book. You lucky wenches, your mates will truly, truly enjoy you reading this book. Don’t forget to thank the author. Next book, Faye, the baby maker books! 😎

Also with action just like I love.I really enjoy the ménage romance books. The m/f/m is awesome! Great story and will be looking for more to come by your newsletter.Good night ;)

Her Double Mountain Outlaws by Madison Faye is my new favorite book in this series! Madison Faye has done it again! Amazing character chemistry, H.O.T. sex scenes, and always HEA ending!

Double the hot and sexy with best friends Landon and Caleb and the fiery lady vet Kennedy. Blackthorne Mountain is the place to be for fresh starts and loyalty.

Gemstones of North America

Review

Since its publication almost four decades ago, this work by renowned gem and mineral expert John Sinkankas has been a standard reference on the subject of the gem materials found throughout North America. The present volume, the third in the series, follows previous volumes published in 1959 and 1976. It presents the latest and most comprehensive information on North America's gemstones, based on Sinkankas' extensive correspondence with gem and mineral dealers, individuals actively engaged in mining operations, and his knowledge of the gemological literature. Gemstone entries, both minerals and rocks, are listed alphabetically. Within each entry, the occurrences of each gemstone are mostly arranged in a geographical order from the northeast to the south and southwest parts of North America. They are all grouped into convenient political divisions, such as the provinces of Canada and the states of Mexico.... The third volume in this series carries on the purpose of chronicling the occurrence of gemstones in North America and efforts to recover them. Anyone interested in gem localities will find much value in this book. -- Economic Geologist, Vol.92, no.5, 1997Sinkankas, an internationally recognized authority of gemology and mineral collecting, provides this comprehensive update and continuation to his widely read Gemstones of North America (v.1, 1959; v.2, 1976). It supplements the first two but incorporates enough of the basic information to be used by itself. New data is given on many of the earlier described minerals and localities, with especially interesting material included in relation to newly developed sites for diamond, amber, beryl, sapphire, and jade. For each of more than 500 minerals and mineral families, there is an explanation of the gem characteristics and detailed descriptions of the source localities in states and provinces of the US, Canada, and Mexico plus localities in the Caribbean and Central America. The well-written text is supported by some excellent color photographs of gemstone locations and working sites. References to informa- tion in geological publications, mineralogical journals, and popular gemology magazines are given for each of the minerals and locations. Recommended for libraries maintaining collections on gemstones and minerals. General readers; undergraduates. -- Choice, September, 1997Thousands of owners of Volumes I and II of John Sinkankas' Gem- stones of North America have waited eagerly for this book which reveals new materials, new locations, and updates previously reported data. No other set of books has helped the amateur and professionals in our field as much in understanding the immense wealth of gem materials in North America. Hundreds of gemstones are covered in alphabetical order, with the organiza- tion of the localities for each starting in the northeast and progressing to the south and southwest. Many of the gemstones are new, or rare, or have been found in previously unknown areas. Besides these recent developments, each entry includes record or unusual occurrences and references to the people involved in discoveries, mining, and cutting. The origins of some species are discussed, gem crystals are described, and current values are often given. Each entry also includes a list of books and magazine articles for reference.... The Sinkankas gemstone books reveal an overwhelming amount of research, but are written in a style which is admired by the general public as well as the gem/mineral/lapidary devotee. So, although it is clearly a reference book, it is also a book which will be read from cover to cover, a can't-put-it-down book for gem enthusiasts. The 16 breathtaking color plates with photos by Harold and Erica Van Pelt top the many illustrations. The black-and-white pictures show mining, field collecting, carvings, and drawings. Interesting to serious collectors are pictures of covers of significant books. There are also numerous maps of important localities. John Sinkankas is author of 15 books about gems, minerals, and lapidary, and is regularly the most read author in this field. Some of his cut stones are in the Smithsonian. His extensive library is now in the Gemological Institute of America headquarters in California. John and his wife, Marjorie, also operate an out-of-print and rare book business, Peri-Lithon Books in San Diego. This book is a "must have" for anyone interested in gemstones and lapidary, and the valuable natural resources of North America. For gem and lapidary hobbyists, this book is one of the most important to be published in many years. -- Lapidary Journal, July, 1997

This book is the Bible for North American gemstones. It has more information about gems and deposits than any other book. The only downside is that it is a little old.

I like the fact that this has so much detailed information about the actual mine sites. Plus the history of the discovery. This book really surprised me and I am very happy to own it.

Only one word...EXCELLENT!...nuff said.

Awesome book.
